Ingredients

  • 3 cups vanilla ice cream, slightly softened
  • 1/2 cup dry red wine Pinot Noir, Merlot, or Cabernet Sauvignon recommended
  • 2 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk optional, for thinning
  • Whipped cream optional, for topping
  • Chocolate shavings or sprinkles optional, for garnish
  • Red food coloring optional, a tiny drop
  • Optional Garnishes: Gummy worms, candy eyeballs, edible glitter, strawberry slices

Equipment

  • Blender
  • Measuring cups
  • Measuring spoons
  • Ice cream scoop
  • Chilled glass
  • Spoon or straw
  • Optional: Cookie cutter (for strawberry garnish)
  • Optional: Small cauldron or goblet (for serving)

Method

  1. Soften the ice cream for 10-15 minutes before blending.
  2. Combine softened ice cream, red wine, and chocolate syrup in a blender.
  3. Blend on low speed, gradually increasing to high, until smooth and creamy.
  4. If the milkshake is too thick, add milk, 1 tablespoon at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
  5. Add a tiny drop of red food coloring if desired to enhance the 'vampire bite' effect.
  6. Taste and adjust flavors, adding more chocolate syrup for sweetness or a splash more red wine for wine flavor.
  7. Pour into a chilled glass.
  8. Top with whipped cream, chocolate shavings or sprinkles, and any other desired spooky decorations.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

For best results, chill your glass before pouring the milkshake to keep it cold. Avoid over-blending, as it can cause the ice cream to melt and the milkshake to become too thin. To make a non-alcoholic version, substitute the red wine with non-alcoholic red wine or grape juice. Add a tiny splash of balsamic vinegar for a similar depth of flavor, if desired. Get creative with garnishes for a spooktacular presentation, such as rimming the glass with chocolate syrup and crushed Oreos, or drizzling red food coloring down the sides to create a 'blood' drip effect. Store leftovers briefly in the freezer, but re-blending is recommended before serving as it will separate. Milkshake is best served immediately.
