  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 medium green bell pepper sliced
  • 1 medium onion sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 4 pieces hoagie rolls
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 1 tbsp butter for toasting rolls

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • spatula
  • knife

Method

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it apart while cooking.
  5. Drain excess grease if necessary.
  6. Season with Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, and paprika.
  7. Cook for another 2 to 3 minutes until combined.
  8. Butter the insides of the hoagie rolls and toast until golden brown.
  9. Fill each roll with the beef mixture.
  10. Top with provolone cheese and allow it to melt slightly before serving.

Notes

Mozzarella or cheddar can replace provolone cheese. Add mushrooms or jalapeños for extra flavor. Store leftover beef filling in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat in a skillet for best texture.
