Method
- Gather all ingredients. Chop the onion and mince the garlic. Grate the Parmesan cheese and chop the parsley (if using).
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or pot over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Then, add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the marinara sauce and beef broth. Stir in the dried oregano and basil. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Bring the sauce to a simmer.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the skillet, and simmer the sauce for at least 15 minutes, or up to 30 minutes.
- While the sauce is simmering, cook the gnocchi according to package directions. Gnocchi is usually done when it floats to the surface of the water.
- Drain the gnocchi well. Add the cooked gnocchi to the skillet with the ground beef sauce. Gently toss to coat the gnocchi evenly in the sauce.
- Serve the Ground Beef Gnocchi immediately. Sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh parsley (if using).
Notes
If the sauce becomes too thick, add a splash of beef broth to thin it out. If the sauce is too thin, remove the lid and let it simmer longer. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, microwave or warm in a skillet with a splash of water or beef broth. For variations, add diced carrots, celery, bell peppers, or zucchini, or substitute ground turkey or Italian sausage for the ground beef. You can also make it creamy by stirring in a dollop of heavy cream or sour cream, or add cheese by sprinkling mozzarella cheese over the gnocchi before serving.
