Method
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
- Add the sliced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Divide the ground beef mixture evenly among the hoagie rolls.
- Top each with 1-2 slices of provolone cheese (or a generous amount of cheese wiz).
- Place the assembled cheesesteaks under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch them carefully to avoid burning.
- Remove from the broiler and add any desired toppings, such as mushrooms or banana peppers.
- Serve immediately and enjoy!
Notes
For a richer flavor, use 80% lean ground beef. You can make the ground beef mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before assembling. Experiment with different cheeses like White American or mozzarella. Spice it up with red pepper flakes or hot sauce. Serve with fries, onion rings, coleslaw, or a salad.
