Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 bell pepper green or your choice
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 4-8 slices provolone cheese, or cheese wiz
  • Optional toppings: mushrooms, banana peppers

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Spoon
  • cutting board
  • knife
  • Measuring spoons
  • Measuring cups
  • Broiler
  • Baking Sheet (optional)
  • Tongs or spatula

Method

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the ground beef and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned. Drain off any excess grease.
  3. Add the sliced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  5. Divide the ground beef mixture evenly among the hoagie rolls.
  6. Top each with 1-2 slices of provolone cheese (or a generous amount of cheese wiz).
  7. Place the assembled cheesesteaks under a broiler for 1-2 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Watch them carefully to avoid burning.
  8. Remove from the broiler and add any desired toppings, such as mushrooms or banana peppers.
  9. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a richer flavor, use 80% lean ground beef. You can make the ground beef mixture ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat before assembling. Experiment with different cheeses like White American or mozzarella. Spice it up with red pepper flakes or hot sauce. Serve with fries, onion rings, coleslaw, or a salad.
