For the Sauce
  • 1 tbsp Unsalted butter Used to sauté onion and garlic.
  • 1 Small yellow onion, finely diced Adds sweetness and flavor.
  • 4 Garlic cloves, minced Enhances flavor profile.
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.5 tsp Black pepper Adjust according to taste.
  • 0.5 tsp Salt Adjust according to taste.
  • 0.5 cup Marinara sauce Adds acidity and flavor.
  • 0.5 cup Heavy cream Provides richness.
  • 0.5 cup Whole milk Can substitute with low-fat milk.
  • 0.75 cup Shredded mozzarella cheese Divided for melting and topping.
  • 0.5 cup Shredded provolone cheese
  • 0.25 cup Shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 0.25 cup Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tbsp Chopped fresh parsley For garnish.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the ground turkey. Cook it until it starts to brown, breaking it apart with a spatula.
  2. Sprinkle in the salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir everything well so the seasonings coat the meat evenly.
  3. Reduce the heat to low, then add the butter, onion, and garlic to the skillet. Cook until the onions are translucent.
  4. Stir in the marinara sauce, heavy cream, and whole milk. Slowly add the shredded cheeses, stirring constantly until melted and creamy.
  5. Gently fold in the tortellini so it soaks up the flavors and cook for an additional few minutes until heated through.
  6. Top the tortellini with the remaining mozzarella and provolone cheese, melting it under a broiler for a minute for a golden finish.
  7. Remove from heat and sprinkle with chopped parsley before serving.

Notes

Grate your own cheese for better melting, use low heat after adding dairy, and adjust the seasoning prior to serving for the best flavor.
